About Handsworth Gangshow
Handsworth Gang Show (HGS) is a variety show performed by members of Birmingham Scouts and Guides. HGS has been running for over 60 years at a number of venues across the city over this time.
We have an evolving cast ranging from 6 to 60 with varying amounts of experience rehearsing over a 6 month period to perform a vibrant, family show full of singing, dancing and sketches.
This year we are returning from a 6 year break for a relaunch show at North Birmingham Academy, Erdington
History of Handsworth Gangshow
The Handsworth Gang Show performed their first show in 1954 and regularly every two or so years on average since. The shows have been performed in a variety of locations from Church Halls to Birmingham Theatres such as The Old Rep and both Old and New Crescent Theatres.
Our last show was held at the Walsall Arena and Arts centre in February 2020. Luckily this was just weeks before the first Coronavirus lockdown. Little did we know then that Covid would have such a dramatic effect on all our lives, especially Scouts and Guides.
Rather than allow this show with all its 70 year history become yet another victim of Covid, a new production and management team was formed earlier this year with the aim of staging a brand new show of Singing, Dancing, Sketches and Comedy.
